Can You Prevent Teeth Misalignment?Having straight teeth is the first step towards an attractive smile and healthy gums and teeth. Unfortunately, not everyone has straight teeth. While genetics and heredity are the common causes of teeth misalignment, some habits can also contribute. This may involve thumb sucking and poor oral hygiene. In this case, you can prevent teeth misalignment through various ways, such as:

Discourage Thumb Sucking

One way to prevent teeth misalignment is by limiting constant pressure on the gums. Some things that can put pressure on the gums are feeding bottles, pacifiers, and thumb sucking. These behaviors affect jaw development, making the teeth grow in the wrong direction. The best way to stop these habits is by replacing them with other activities. For instance, if your kid sucks their thumb during dull moments, you can substitute this by engaging them in music or toys.

Implement Oral Hygiene Habits

Tooth loss can affect the alignment of your teeth. If you ignore proper oral care, plaque will build up around your teeth and the gum line. In severe cases, gum disease or tooth decay can lead to tooth loss. Over time, the neighboring teeth will shift and result in crowding.

In addition, if your kid suffers from tooth decay and gum disease, they will likely lose their teeth. Losing teeth at an early age can affect the growth of permanent teeth. In this case, proper oral hygiene should be a priority. This may involve establishing teeth brushing routine and scheduling dental appointments.

Replace Missing Teeth

Missing teeth are other causes of misaligned teeth. If you lose a tooth and fail to replace it, the surrounding teeth will shift toward the empty spots. In this case, it is vital to consult a dentist concerning the missing teeth and effective replacement options that fits your oral needs.
